Yeeee-Haaaw !!
We started the season with a roar of gunfire, clouds of smoke, and great weather conditions. It was a chilly 37 degrees with cloudy skies to start the match, but approximately 11:15 am the sun popped out and it reached a pleasant 61 degrees for the remainder of the day. 52 shooters should up to kick off the 2009 season with whooping stories and loads of laughter. A big "Thanks" to the 57 folks that have currently joined as Members for the year.
Congratulations to Cumberland Drifter, Captain Grouch, Smiley, Fargo Bill, Flintlock Fields, Batjac Shootist, Sheriff Jay, and Swift Buffalo on their "clean match" for the day.
We were very happy to welcome back our shootin' pard, Silverado Bullet. He was unable to participate last year due to health issues, but he is back this season sportin' about with some new stainless steel pistols that were slicked up by Vaquero Hayes. Tombstone Diamond is recovering from hip surgery, and we are hopeful that he will be able to join us sometime this year. That is, if he has time. Someone mentioned that he may be training for the Mini-Marathon in Louisville, Ha! Ha! Ohio River Gambler will be on light work status for the year due to upper spinal surgery. El Paso is still battling a blood condition, and hopefully he will show improvement this year. Little Henry has recovered from arm surgery and back with us this season. Condolence to Waco John, Chief Old Timer, and Lorenzo Lain for the recent loss of their loved ones. Hope I didn't miss anyone, but that is enough sick, lame, or crazy for a while anyway.
We set up a speed scenario at stage #8, the Mercantile, and several folks commented that they were able to shoot the fastest stage of their entire CAS career. All firearms were staged on a center table, no movement required by the shooter. ATB: rifle and pistol targets were engaged in a 2,3,2,3. Shotgun targets were engaged one time each. The faster shooters ripped it off in 12 to 19 seconds, and the average/slower shooters were completing it in the mid to high 20's, and 30's. Everyone enjoyed the opportunity to let em' fly without thinking about where to move to the next position. The other stages were a mixture of sweeps, combination target engagements, with lots of movement from one shooting position to the next.
Happy Jan, Feb, & Mar birthdays to: Abu. BC Spitwhiskers, Blackjack, Calamity Kelly, Cedar Creek Coy, Clear Creek Slim, Colorado Bull, Dakota Kid Curry, El Paso, Fighting Eagle, Graver, Irish Straight, Jose Gigante, Lizzy of the Valley, Lizzy Grace, Randy Atcher, Reddog West, Silverado bullet, Sunset Sam, Swift Buffalo, and Tombstone Diamond.
I know times are tough and too often cash is short, but when you can go visit the other two CAS clubs in Kentuckiana, Pleasant Valley, near Madison, In., and Knob Creek, on the southwest side of Louisville. All three of these Kentuckiana clubs, TVR, PVR, and KCGG provide great shooting venues and offer awesome CAS fellowship.
