Howdy Cowfolks!
Hope everyone has survived the winter months successfully.
Most of our winter was mild, except for the last few weeks, and the beginning
of spring. The repeated freeze/thaw, 12" of snow the first weekend of
March and the seemingly endless rainfall has caused the worse ground conditions
in 10 years. Many nearby rural roadways have been under water, and the
parking area at Thunder Valley has been too soft for vehicular traffic.
We had to cancel our March 15 match due to the extremely soft surface.
Hopefully, we will be able to complete a makeup match on March 29.
The Tonto Rim retail store, in Seymour, In., will remain open
at least thru June, and may continue to be available after that. Our April
19 match will include a Memorial Service for fellow shooters that have
past on, and will be followed with our annual spring campout and pitch-in
dinner. Several of our brothers and sisters from Illinois, Missouri, and
northern Indiana will join us for that match. Come on down and enjoy a
great day of CAS, great grub, and an evening of fellowship around the
campfire. Bragging rights and tall tales are normally abundant throughout
the gathering.
2008 memberships continue to arrive, and currently we have
32 renewals for the year. When you have the opportunity, send your renewal
to us, and avoid having to wait in line at the office to complete the
paperwork for 2008.
Happy March birthdays to: Abu, BC Spitwhiskers, Bodacious
Jim, Cedar Creek Coy, Clear Creek Slim, Leadville Clyde, Fighting Eagle,
Graver, Lizzy of the Valley, Mountain Dog, Ohio River Gambler, Red Dog
West, and Silverado Bullet.
Happy belated Jan birthdays to: Doc Froz, Irish Straight,
Jose Gigante, Miss Sassy Sasparilla, Sunset Sam, and Ugly Jack
Happy belated February birthdays to: Shoshone Slim, Calamity
Kelly, and El Paso.
Vaquero Hayes and Padre PW will be conducting RO1 & RO11
instruction at the Lees Inn, Seymour In., on April 26. You can contact
Vaquero at vkhayes1@verizon.net, 812-662-7799, or 812-614-4993, to register
for the class.
We are in hopes of providing you with another fun filled
year of Cowboy Action shooting here at Thunder Valley. We will have a
new monthly volunteer sidematch competition based on pistol accuracy that
will offer prizes, and $$$. The details of the competition are top secret,
so you'll have to show up to see it and participate. I'm moving some of
the stationary targets around to provide a slightly different target viewing,
but in general, it will remain similar to last year, "Up-close & Friendly".
Our monthly bonus shots will be available in April, May, July, Sept, and
October. To be considered for an annual award in your class or Top Cowboy/Top
Cowgirl, you must attend six (6) of the ten (10) scheduled matches. Average
time per stage will be calculated from the best of your six matches. Individuals
shooting more than six matches will be able to drop the less desirable
scores for annual scoring purposes. Score records will be maintained and
calculated by our Spreadsheet Wizard, Fighting Eagle.
Anyone having questions related to CAS or Thunder Valley
Range, feel free to contact one of the club officers: Abu - Range Master,
Jose Gigante - Asst Range Master, Fighting Eagle - Admin Director, Graver
- Vice Pres, Redneck Rebel - Pres/Asst Match Director, or Vaquero Hayes
- Match Director/Territorial Governor/SASS Instructor/gunsmith. We will
attempt to assist you with questions about equipment, ammo, rules/regulations,
or other items related to CAS.
