Howdy Cowfolks:
Well, if you missed this match, you should bend over
and give yourself a good kick in the rear end. The weather was a perfect
74 degrees, bright sunny skies, and a nice breeze to clear away the smoke
for the Black Powder folks. I switched up the targets a bit to provide
a taste of the "Old SASS" at two stages. A few of the larger rifle targets
were moved out to approximately 60 feet, and one of the extra large targets
at 50 yards. The rifle bonus, a SASS cowboy targets was set at 64 yards.
The other four stages were a mixture of sweeps and multiple target engagements,
with all pistol targets set at 22 feet from the firing line. One of the
large pistol targets was set at 35 feet as a part of a pistol sweep. The
target arrangement provided a bit more challenge, but the majority of
folks made the required adjustment, and enjoyed the slight change in routine.
We'll try to mix it up for you at some of the upcoming matches this year.
63 % of all shooters made their bonus shot at 64 yards. Looks like a good
percentage of folks know where their rifle hits at a longer distance.
Congratulations to: Miss Sassy Sasparilla, Ugly Jack, Black
Tom, and Redneck Rebel on their "Clean Match" for the day.
Happy April Birthdays to: Chicago Steeley, Chief Old
Timer, and Vaquero Hayes.
The SASS Chronicles posted an article about our own, Miss
Sassy Sasparilla, and congratulated her as a recipient of a SASS scholarship.
She is a hard working, hard shootin' cowgirl, and we are very proud to
have her as a member here at Thunder Valley.
Several brand new shooters came to visit Thunder Valley,
and all gave every indication that they thoroughly enjoyed their first
match. A "big welcome" to the pack for Shiloh Kid, Grizley Gaucho, and
Trail Cook Johnny. Some of our cowboy friends from way up north joined
us again for the Annual Memorial Service for shooters that have passed
away. Chicago Steely and Flatland Drifter came down from the Chicago area,
and Mountain Dog made a long trip from Iowa. A twenty-one gun salute and
a word of prayer were presented in the memory of Zeb, Col. Thompson, James
Sage, and Rapid Lee. They can no longer be with us physically, but their
memory will remain in our hearts forever. Following the match, twenty-eight
door prizes were distributed, and our pitch-in dinner around the campfire
provided plenty of great food and fellowship.
A reminder: The Indiana State Match will be July 24-26, at
Deer Creek, Marion, Indiana, and the entry fee has been reduced from previous
years, and includes unlimited sidematches and dinner. The Deer Creek folks
present an awesome shoot, and if you want to have a great week-end of
Cowboy Action Shooting, get signed up for that event. Hooten Old Town
will host the Kentucky State Shoot, MeKee, Kentucky, May 1-3, and they
also display a fantastic week-end of Cowboy Action Shooting. Get signed
up soon !!!
